Medieval Renaissance Costumes System During Tudor Period

renaissance gownsTudor cloths were the easiest way of differentiating from upper class people to lower class. People of wealthy status or poor were not allowed to wear whatever they want as they were bound by the laws of land. Especially the poor one as they were come into the category of ‘Not haves’, they hardly could afford the luxury of life.

Tudor laws were implemented so that the Tudor people would follow the laws of land and Tudor social structure remains maintained. People who come in lower class were peasants basically they were tied or serfs. The cloths of inexpensive materials like Wool, Lenin and Sheepskins were worn by peasants and it was mandatory for them to wear woolen caps also. These cloths should be in colors of brown, yellow, orange, green, grey and blue. For men apart from these colors the fabrics of silk, taffeta and velvet trimmings was allowed. In clothing they could wear coats, cloaks, hats and caps.

System was not different for women also, fabric of clothing’s were Wool, Lenin and Sheepskins, silk, taffeta and velvet trimmings and that was in same color as that for men. During Tudor system men and women of lower status were easily recognized by their cloths as the choice of cloth’s fabric was very short.

Medieval Clothing system in Tudor period was depending upon the Royalty, Nobility, Upper class and lower class-these were the working people. Rich and wealthy people also did not have any liberty; they also have to follow the rules. Royalties were top at the chart and thus people following them were at gaining position. Silk, Velvet and furs were the expensive materials therefore these were confined to the people of higher status only.

In Royals, men could wear anything in fabric of silk and in color of purple. Doublets, jerkins, linings of cloaks, gowns and hose were worn by Dukes, Marquises, Earls, above Viscounts and barons. But the fabric of Duke and Marquises was sable fur and for rest were satin, silk, cloth of silver, gold and mixed cloths. Colors were in purple, gold, silver, crimson or in black also.

Female royalties used to wear Gowns, Kirtles, and part less and those were in purple, gold and silver color. Expensive Jewelries, Crowns were the part of their day to day life, during that period of time they were trendsetter. Their possessions and life styles were desired by every other person. Those Jewelries and crowns of royalties were beautifully designed. Rich Patterns on the metals like silver, gold and platinum or over artificial metals were so carefully and elegantly designed that they were tempted by everyone.

During Tudor system people’s appearance- the way they dressed and keep themselves up was the one of the way of defining their social standing in the society. We have not seen such a civilization which differentiates its people on the basis of renaissance costumes to recognize them.
